Finally as the role of transition metals in biological systems is increasingly understood new bio-organometallic reagents will be developed which will further advance the capability of the synthetic chemist. Abstract - Compounds related to the auxin transport inhibitor l-(2,carboxyphenyl)3-phenylpropan-l,3-dione, in which the 3-diketone moiety has been replaced by five and six membered heterocyclic systems, are discussed. The syntheses of four pyrimidine analogues are described, three of which involve Vilsmeier type amideacid chloride intermediates in the formation of the heterocyclic ring.
